Soapdish is a pop/rock Pinoy band composing four members. Jeff Bolivar deals with the vocals and the guitars. Christopher “Pei” Signey is a brilliant guitarist of the band and engages in vocals as back-up and so with Cesar Bendoy at the same time the band’s bassist. Oliver Estacion is a very promising drummer with his flashy and subtle styles and also deals with the percussions.
The history of Soapdish can be traced back in the summer of year 2001. Group of friends in Fairview, Quezon City decided to organize a band for their leisure during their spare time. They have their get together every afternoon and share their love of music by jamming. The first group was composed of Kurt, Louie, BJ and Terence. A couple of weeks, they were found playing in schools and different venue areas. The band realizes quickly their capability and decided to make their own songs and hoping people can relate to them. The band gained favorable response and believed in them but unfortunately, after some time, Kurt, previously from group “H.I.V.”, decided to leave the band for some priorities. Louie then left the band for other interest as well. Some friends took the vacancies but it never worked out. Kurt had talks with Jeff and BJ, former Soapdish guitarist. BJ decided to leave Soapdish because of too much pressure, so Kurt and Jeff reformed the band. Pei Signey, a brilliant guitarist replaced what Terence had left behind. To finalize the lineup, Melvin, a friend and member of other band played as the bassist for a mean time until the availability of Cesar Bendoy. Soapdish was happy to announce that they are continuing on after Cesar became available. For yet another personal reason, Kurt left the band and Oliver Estacion did replace him as drummer. The former weak, disunited band seems strong now.
The band signed with the label VIVA Records in 2005. Before signing with VIVA Records, the band released an independent EP entitled The New Beautiful in 2005. It includes tracks such as “Tensionado” and “Pwede Ba”. In the mid of the same year, the band released their self-titled album under VIVA Records entitled Soapdish. It has 12 tracks including strong hit singles such as “Ewan Ko”, “Tensionado”, and “Pwede Ba”.
Some of the songs were used in movies and in television. “Nandito Lang Ako” was used in Posh of QTV 11 and “Pwede Ba?” in Korean Novela of ABS-CBN’s It Started With A Kiss. Strong singles such as “Ewan Ko”, “Tensionado” and most accepted mass song, “Pwede Ba?” flooded radio stations nationwide.
A repackaged version of the band’s debut self-titled album was released in year 2006 entitled Soapdish Reloaded under VIVA Records. It includes 12 original tracks plus Nandito Lang Ako, Posh theme song, an acoustic version of Pwede Ba?, a radio version of Sana Sinabi and Pwede Ba?, and 3 music videos. VIVA Records also released a compilation entitled Hopia Mani Popcorn in 2007 and Soapdish contributed their own rendition of Rey Valera’s Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko, as the first single in the compilation.
