The Story and Songs of Sheryn Regis
Sheryn Mae Poncardas Regis is the given name of Sheryn Regis, a Filipina pop singer and constantly on top in the Search for the Star in a Million but ended as runner up only, next to Erik Santos in January 2004. Sheryn engages in pop, ballad, classical and rock genres.
She was born on November 26, 1979, a native in Carcar, Cebu and the eldest among three siblings of Bernardo and Daisy Regis. As early as 2 years old, she was able to hum and sing. At age of seven, she started joining singing contests. She finished her Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English in Cebu Normal University. Theater acting and chorale singing paved a chance for her to go abroad and was able to perform in Canada and in the USA. Leo Martinez and Gina Alajar was their workshop mentor. In 1999, she was presented with an award as Best Interpreter during Cebu Pop Music Festival and her song won the grand prize. She is now married on year 2002 to a guy named Earl Echiverri whom she met in Cebu Plaza Hotel where she worked as a lounge singer. They had a daughter with a nickname of Sweetie.
Regis enters showbiz in 2003 through ABS-CBN’s Star in a Million. She is always on top but ended only as a runner up but got the Texter’s choice award. She was later offered a recording contract by ABS-CBN and accepted it.
Come In and Out of the Rain, her first song was a top hit in radio charts. Her debut album by Star Records bearing the same title was released on April 2004 and attained its platinum status. It contains the hit Kailan Kaya, the theme song of fantaserye, Marina written by Cacai Velasquez and Raul Mitra.
On July 2005, Sheryn’s second album was launched bearing the name Sheryn Regis, What I Do Best by Star Records. It contains hit songs like Sabihin Mo Sa Akin, theme song of Kampanerang Kuba, Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka, the chosen love theme some of Gulong ng Palad and Dahil Nagmamahal, the theme song of Nagmamahal, Kapamilya. The said album reached its gold status.
Sheryn began recording under Star Records for Sheryn Regis: The Modern Jukebox Collection, her third album. Her single of the album was the new version of Leah Navarro’s Ang Pag-Ibig Kong Ito.
The new version of Joey Albert’s I Remember The Boy was chosen as the theme song of Sana Maulit Muli. She was given the task also to sing Maria Flordeluna’s theme song. Another official single from the album entitled Ang Lahat Para Sa’yo was written by Ricky Sanchez and Pusong Lito, her original composition was the theme song of Summer Sunshine, ABS-CBN’s Cebu teleserye.
Aside from theme songs, Sheryn was tapped to sing ABS-CBN’s regional division ID namely Sabay Tayo Pilipinas. Together with Marinel Santos, they sang the songs of Star Circle Quest and with Gloc 9 in Nginiig. She was chosen also to breathe new life to the original song of Kuh Ledesma's Dito Ba on October 2007 as the theme song of Prinsesa ng Banyera featuring Kristine Hermosa and Angelika dela Cruz.
Together with Eric Santos, Rachelle Ann Go, and Mark Bautista, they hosted the Search for the Star in a Million Season 2. She hosted Little Big Star Cebu which racked fourth top-rating show of ABS-CBN.
Sheryn was seen in many different variety shows such as MTB, Wowowee and ASAP 07. Mr. Vehnee Saturno chose her to represent the Philippines in the 2004 Voice of Asia Song Festival in Kazakhstan and brought home the second prize.
During her birthday concert, she formally proclaimed to public her very own organization, Little Voices Foundation which was established to help less-fortunate children.
Her dual acting role in Love’s Spell’s Cindyrella brought her new excitement in her career and expresses her gratitude for such a chance.
