The Story and Songs of Sharon Cuneta

Sharon Cuneta is a popular, award-winning Pinay actress, an outstanding singer, a great TV host and a convincing endorser of different commercial products and services. Her long sojourn on showbiz garnered her as the only ”Mega Star of the Philippines Show Business”. Active since year 1978, she has been receiving different awards and was considered as box office queen at her very young age.

Born on January 6, 1966, she was named Sharon Gamboa Cuneta Pangilinan by her mother, Elaine Cuneta and her father, Pablo Cuneta, who rule the Pasay City for years. She inherited her Tagalog traits from her father and being a Kapampangan and Spanish from her mother side.

Her first exposure to Philippine pop charts was on year 1978 when she was yet 12 years old, singing the song “Mr. DJ”. The tune became an instant success and garnered her as D.J.’s Pet, which was the name also of her first album. Other hit albums followed and more movie soundtracks were sung by her. She became the first “Movie Soundtrack Star” of the country. At her early age, she already starred films like Dear Heart as her first featured film on 1980. Together with her love pair, Gabby Conception, theirs was the most popular love team in Philippine Movies on 1980’s. After her first appearance, she appeared on almost 50 films and became “The Box Office Queen” of the country for 8 years (1985- 1993). Her personality, intellect & humor suit the taste of the Filipino people ranging from social-rich people to simple masses.

The Sharon Cuneta Show or T.S.C.S. was one of the longest running shows in Philippine television from 1986- 1997 or 11 years. Her talent for hosting was proved effective on shows as GMA Supershow later known as Germspesyal together with German Moreno and with former actress, Helen Gamboa for C.U.T.E., Call Us Two for Entertainment.

When she was 19 years old, she was married to Gabby Conception, a civil wedding first and followed by a church wedding on September 23, 1984. On April of 1985, Sharon give birth to a beautiful baby girl named Maria Kristina Cassandra Conception when was known in the Philippines as “KC Conception”.

Sharon was the first one to sell out at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium in year 1988 and her latest concert was on June 11, 2005. She even made a traffic jam at Los Angeles which puzzled its mayor, Tom Bradley who was curious and after finding out her success and watched her concert, gave her an Honorary Key to the City of Los Angeles.

In her movie Madrasta, she hit Grand Slam awards including “The Star Awards for Movies”, “People’s Choice Awards”, “The Film Academy of the Philippines”, “The Gawad Urian” and the “FAMAS”. She belongs to one of the rarest actress in Philippine show biz together with Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos. In the same year, she was married to Sen. Francis Kiko Pangilinan and gave birth to two siblings. Simone Francesca Emmanuelle (Franckie) was born on December 2000 and Mariel Daniella Sophia (Miel) on September 2004. On September 2000, her father Pablo Cuneta died at old age of 90 years.

A duet also made on 2001 with Andy Lao, a famous Hong Kong star singing “In Your Eyes” composed by Jim Brickman. Another international awards received by Sharon Cuneta as “Best Actress” in her comedy movie, Crying Ladies in 2004. At the beginning of the next year, she celebrated her 39th birthday on the show, Wish Upon A Mega where she granted 39 wishes into reality. On the next year, on her 40th birthday was celebrated on ABS-CBN named Ang Pagbabalik Ng Bituin and few months later, her self-titled show was aired.

Currently, she is studying at University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna takking up Associate in Arts.

Last December 2007, she released her another album, Isn’t It Romantic? Volume 2 under the label of “Sony BMG Records”. Last January 2008, she is filming Caregiver for “Star Cinema” for she admitted that her greatest passion is acting and her day cannot be complete without it.
