The Story and Songs of Sandwich

Sandwich Pinoy Band is one of the leading bands in field of local rock bands. It is one of the hard rock bands in the Philippines since 1998. They preserved their trademark of energetic performance.

They were consist of 5 members. While Raimund Marasigan was still in Eraserheads, he formed another band together with Diego Castillo with the intention of working. Raimund is with the vocals and sometimes with guitars while Diego focuses on guitars only. They both recruited member for the completion of their band. Myrene Academia is for the bass, Mike Dizon of Teeth for the drums and Marc Abaya (left on 2005) was discovered by Raimund while jamming with the Beastie Boys.

Though Eraserheads still exists at that time, Raimund’s new band was proved to be heavier when it come to music and was able to established his own fan base. He still occasionally performed with Eraserheads if ever there were absent.

They made contract with BMG-Records, commonly called Sony-BMG Music nowadays. They released their debut album entitled Grip, Stand, Throw with its carries, Butterfly Carnival and other hits like Maybe and R2D2. Due to its impressive performance, the band won 3 awards in 1999.

On 2000, they released their award-winning, second album namely Four-Track Mind with hit singles Food For The Soul, Hairpin and Love Is. It was awarded Album of the Year in 2001.

Later, in 2003, Sandwich parted with BMG Records and released their third album, Thanks To The Moon’s Gravitational Pullindependently. EMI Records disseminates the said album. It earned a title Album Producer of the Year for 2004’s NU ROCK AWARDS.

Year 2005 was proved fruitful in spite of the decision of Mark Abaya to focus on other path. He has the difficulty in handling his job as MTV VJ and with the other band, Kjwan. Since then, Raimund handled all the vocal duties. The band compose songs for Tantra, an online game (Humanda Ka) and Nginiig for the show with the same name in ABS-CBN. Mong Alcaraz of Chicosci joined the band as replacement of Mark to complete the band and to assume the responsibilities left by Mark.

Sandwich officially signed with EMI Records in December 2005. They released their latest album, Five On The Floor in early 2006 with Sugod as their carrier single. Sugod earned several awards in MTV. In their latest album, Sandwich, display its unique talent when it comes to rock genre music. They introduce new definition to rock music.

Sandwich is officially a part of EMI Records and in their collaboration, Sandwich became one of the most popular hard rock band in the Philippines.
