Sam MilbyThe Story of Sam MilbySamuel Lloyd Lacia Milby is an actor, commercial model and recording artist of Filipino-American descent. He is known as Sam Milby. His is considered one of the busiest and most bankable stars in Star Magic today. Sam Milby was born on May 23, 1984 in Troy, Ohio, United States. His mother is a pure Filipina and a native in Tago, Surigao del Sur and his father is an American. He is the youngest sibling of Elsie Lacia and Lloyd Milby. His father is an entrepreneur from Dayton, Ohio where he was raised up. Sam’s primary passion was ice skating. He was trained for competitive skating from the age of 9 and started to live with his coach until on his 15th year. Only during weekends he can visit his family and spend with them. He already competed in major ice skating contest winning silver and other awards during the span of his skating career. Aside from his immediate family, Milby did not grow up with many Filipinos around. Yet the talented Fil-Am was no foreigner to his mother's country. He, along with his family, had visited the Philippines several times before. At one time he did take a shot at Philippine showbusiness. But pressing personal matters then prodded him to return to the States. On March 2005, he decided to return to his mother land and pursued a career in show business and modelling. He answered casting calls and auditions for modelling from Bulacan where he temporarily stayed with his relatives. Though answers were not always encouraging as it seemed, his persistence finally yield its fruit. A big break for his career happened when he starred as lead in Close Up TV commercial together with Barbie Almalbis. His entrance to Pinoy Big Brother served his turning point of his career. He was not an original member but replaced one of the contestants who gave their voluntary exit. On the exit of the member, the show held an audition and Sam, being encouraged by Erickson Raymundo tried his luck. He won the favour of the judges and bested more than 200 hopefuls. With his pleasing personality although accompanied with him shyness, he captured the hearts of the Filipino and became one of the well-endeared housemates. While inside the house, he was able to compose several songs in English and with the help of his housemates, he translated one of his best love songs. Together with Say Alonzo, they sang “Magmahal Muli”, one of the biggest hit songs of 2005. His singing prowess was discovered inside the house. After 49 days in sojourn, he was evicted. Though, PBB closed its door for Sam, the mainstream show business offered a lot more. He became an instant celebrity after leaving the PBB house on November of 2005. He is among of The Hearthrobs together with Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz. They appeared in ASAP ’08, a musical variety show on Sunday noon. He also rendered his version of “Only You” to ABS-CBN which was used as soundtrack of the Tagalog-dubbed Korean series entitled Only You. Together with John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, he starred in his first major film entitled Close To You in early 2006. The movie eventually became a Philippine Box office. He also released his self-titled debut album, Sam Milby under Star Records. The album featured 15 cuts, 8 songs and 7 were minus one. It spawned hit songs like “Close To You”, “Only You”, “Magmahal Muli”, “Wherever You Will Go”, “I Swear”, “I’ve Fallen In Love” and “Missing You .The album was repackaged and re-released on August 2006. It included song “There’s More” of his Centrum endorsement. The album reached Platinum on 2006. The same that year, he starred You Are The One, the long-awaited movie with Tony Gonzaga. Their concert with Piolo Pascual dubbed as “Heartthrobs” was held at the Music Museum on February and was followed by a repeat concert on March 2007. He was also seen in Maging Sino Ka Man and in a blockbuster movie, You Got Me with Toni Gonzaga and Zanjoe Marudo. Another hit movie with Toni Gonzaga and Kristine Hermosa was launched recently. His concerts does not limit only to the Philippines but also held successful international tours in U.S. and Europe. Together with his rising personality were intrigues. Among them was malicious claims that they were rumoured gay relationship with Piolo Pascual. The two filed 12-million libel suit to Lolit Solis who allegedly fabricate the story. Albums
