The Story of Ronnie Liang
Ronnie Liang is a Filipino singer. He joined ”Pinoy Dream Academy” and ended only the second runner-up on grand finals. He is the person behind the popular OPM song, Ngiti. With his height of 6 ft. and angelic face, he is considered one of the most talented and handsome singers in the Philippine Music.
Ronnie was born on January 31, 1985 in Angeles Cuty, Pampanga, Philippines. He belonged to a family of low-income and the youngest of seven siblings. Because of poverty, Ronnie dreamed of alleviating themselves from the slavery of poverty. But this does not hinder himself to study. As a working student, he worked diligently in a fastfood outlet and video shop while studying at Holy Angel University in Angeles City, Pampanga. At last, after long enduring years, he finally graduated with a Bachelor degree of Education.
Possessed with beautiful physique, he was able to work as a part-time model. Eventually, his manager discovered his hidden talent of singing. He encouraged him to join singing competition and one of it them was Pinoy Pop Superstar. This served a turning point for Ronnie’s career. He ended as grand contender but was disqualified because he was the only one having a manager. He could have won the contest but out of loyalty to his manager, he chose to leave the competition.
He then decided to join ”Pinoy Dream Academy” and passed the initial screenings. He is lucky enough to enter the top 20 scholars to study inside the Academy. This 6-feet scholar captured the hearts of the viewers both here and abroad. He keeps on improving after each performance during the Saturday Gala Nights. His loyal supporters delivered and saved him from expulsion after he was nominated. Having built a solid fan base, he was tagged as People’s Favorite and made it to the Honor’s List of Six.
After sixteen weeks of training inside the Academy, the remaining six compete for finals and this include Ronnie Liang. The long-awaited Grand Dream Night was held at Araneta Coliseum on December 16, 2006. the Big Dome was packed with fans and supporters with their own bets.
After the six performance, the voting was temporarily closed to determine the bottom three and the top three. Jusy, Jennepir and Rosaleya were the bottom three while Yeng, Jay-R and Ronnie proceeded to the final round. The top three faced each other with their solo performances. Ronnie sang his rendition of Basil Valdez’ “Nais Ko”. However not only text votes were considered, this made Ronnie the second runner-up while Jay-R was the first runner-up and the grand finalist, The Grand Star Dreamer was no other that Yeng Constantino.
After the competition, he kept himself busy with gigs and guestings with the other PDA contestants. Together with the PDA Honor Six, they held their Dream Concert Tour on January 2007 and their World Tour on April 2007. Their U.S. Tour started from July to August 2007.
On April 2007, he released his debut album under Universal Records entitled Ang Aking Awitin spawning singles like “Ngiti” and “Gusto Kita”. The two singles peaked number 1 in radio stations. He also ventured out to acting and was seen in Mano Po 4: Ako Legal Wife, Your Song: “Salamat” and Bukas Kitang Mahalin. He also a regular performer in ASAP ’07.
His manger is George Roca and his supporters were named Ronnians, Superonics and macaRONNIEs.
