The Story of Ogie Alcasid
Herminio Alcasid Jr. is a famous Filipino singer and songwriter/ composer, a television host, an actor and a good comedian. He is more popularly known as Ogie Alcasid in show business. He was born on August 27, 1967. He started his singing career at the age of 21 and still very active until this very day. He already produced a lot of albums having five gold records, three are platinum and other three are double platinum records.
He released his self-titled debut album “Ogie Alcasid” in 1989 followed by eighteen more albums. His latest album was entitled “Ogie All The Classics” which was released last 2007.
Ogie’s first exposure to hosting started as one of the hosts of “Small Brothers”, a comedy show of ABS-CBN on 1992 and also in other comedy shows of the station such as “Mana-Mana” in 1991 and “Tropang Trumpo” in 1994. He was also chosen as game show host of the beginning of ABS-CBN’s “Game Na Game Na” on 1995. He also hosted the Philippine version of “Family Feud” in ABC in 2001.
He then transferred to GMA Network and one of the cast of “Bubble Gang”, GMA’s comedy show until present and “Ay, Robot” in QTV, a sister station of GMA Network. He also hosted “Celebrity Duets: Philippine Edition” with Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez and has his mainstay in “SOP Rules” as one of their main host. He is also one of the judges of “Pinoy Idol”.
Not just in TV shows that Ogie bares his God given talents but he also appeared in different movies either as a leading man or just a sidekick. His first appearance in movie as a leading man was in “Feel Na Feel”, a fantasy flick together with Manilyn Reyes in 1990. Movies as “Si Ayala at Si Zobel”, “Isko Adventures in Animasia”, “Bestman: 4 Better”, “Not 4 Worse” and “Shake, Rattle and Roll” are some of the notable exposures of him.
Ogie was able to gain recognition from different successful and sold-out concerts nationwide. He held his first solo concert “Nandito Ako” in Meralco Theatre on March 1990. His fourth album “On Air” was launched by another successful major concert at the Quirino Granstand on May 15, 1993. His major concerts ranged from launching of his albums to fund raising concerts and different occasions as Christmas and Valentines to tribute concerts. His first musical stage play held at Quirino Grandstand as he portrays Jose Rizal in “Sino Ka Ba Jose Rizal?”.
Alcasid proved himself wise enough in owning himself a chain of hot dog stalls named “Oggie Doggie”.
Ogie was married to a contestant of Miss Universe from Australia named Michelle Van Eimeren and produced two siblings. After their divorce, Michelle and his two children lived in Australia. He is now having a present-relationship with a singer-actress Regine Velasquez.
