The Story of Nikki Gil
Monica Pauline Gil is a Filipina actress, singer and a host. Gil is more commonly called ”Nikki Gil” in Show biz. She is known for her Asian version of “Breaking Free” and “Gotta Go My Own Way” for High School Musical 1 & 2 and garnered the title as the Asian Girl Superstar. She did jingles of different commercial as Coca-Cola, Dunkin Donuts, J&J, Ovaltine, Anchor Milk, Del Monte Catsup and Del Monte Pineapple.
Monica Pauline Gil was born on August 23, 1987 in Manila, Philippines into a family of talented musicians. Her father plays the guitars and sings and her mom is a former church singer. Nikki studied and graduated high school as Valedictorian on March 2004 from Shekinah Christian Training Center. She currently studying at Ateneo de Manila University taking up AB English Literature.
Nikki also plays piano in the church choir and this is where is stand out. She was asked to audition for commercial and her role in Coca-Cola commercial paved an entrance for her to show biz. She also the voice talents of several TV and radio commercials as Dunkin Donuts, J&J, Ovaltine, Anchor Milk, Del Monte Catsup and Del Monte Pineapple.
Possessing good looks, captivating smile and charming voice, Nikki easily caught the attention of ABS-CBN and appear regularly on the show ASAP ’06. Nikki also possesses a skill in hosting. She signed contract on MYX as VJ and also co-hosted ABS-CBN’s MRS (Most Requested Show) and Pinoy Dream Academy and on ANC’s Breakfast.
On 2005, she signed contract with EMI Music Philippines on April 2005. Her debut self-titled album Nikki Gil was released on September 2005. “Sakayan Ng Jeep” is the debut single of the album. The single soared high on local radio stations and its video aired on top music channels. The song was originally recorded by Lani Misalucha on 90’ and was composed by Bodjie Dasig.
The repackaged album was released on February 266 featuring “Glowing Inside”. The song was used in Vaseline Shampoo as tribute to all graduates and their mothers behind them.
She made a rendition of “Breaking Free” for the soundtrack of High School Musical which was released on 2006 under Walt Disney Records Asia/ Emi Philippines. Because of the success, she was entitled to make an Asian version of “Gotta Go My Own Way” for the Philippine soundtrack of the 2007 Disney Channel Original Movie, High School Musical 2 which was released on 2007 under Walt Disney Records/ Emi Philippines and grabbed the name as the ”Asian Girl Superstar”.
In addition for her singing accomplishments, she also sang the remake of “Dito Sa Puso Ko” with Josh Santana for the theme song of Qpids, ABS-CBN’s teenage reality dating game. The song was with sung by Ogie Alcasid on 90’s. She also did a duet with Ronnie Liang in the revival of Ang Aking Awitin and sang the Filipino version of Hong Kong Disneyland’s It’s A Small World entitled Kay Liit Ng Mundo.
As an actress, she participated in several TV series and programs. She was visible as one of the major character as Leal in ABS-CBN’s Rounin. She also appeared in Your Song: Ang Pag-ibig Kung Ito, Pangarap Na Bituin (Sapphire Gomez), Love Spell: Credit Card and Florida. She hosted also in Wowowee on 2007 and the latest Pinoy Dream Academy: Season 2.
Nikki is a present member of Star Magic, ABS_CBN’s circle of homegrown artists appeared in several commercials as AVON, Smart Communication, Happee Tooothpaste, Vaseline, Lucky Me, Vicky Belo Clinic,,Penshoppe, Disnery Channel Asia and Sunsilk.
