The Story of Michael V.

As a recording artist, he is known for his translation of foreign songs into Filipino and composed original tracks like Sinaktan Mo Ang Puso Ko and Hindi Ako Bakla. He is also a good imitator and was even dubbed as ”The Master of Disguise”.

Michael V. was born on December 17, 1969 in Pandacan, Manila Philippines. His father named him after Ludwig Van Beethoven, a German composer when he saw the latter’s LP in the office of his boss. He did not even know that Beethoven was a surname. He studied in Manila Science High School on his secondary education and finished a degree of Mass Communication in Pamantasan Ng Lungsod Ng Maynila.

His nickname Bitoy was not actually derived from his name but rather, he was teased as Bitoy by his classmates as he impersonated Bentot when he saw the latter in Iskul Bukol. Until now, the he carries the nickname Bitoy. Michael V. was also derived in the combination of Michael Jackson and Gary V. It was also a custom on 1990’s to reduce surnames into initials only like Francis M. and Andrew E.

Michael is a very hopeful child as he imagined making difference in any way he can. He joined several contest including “Eat Bulaga” on TV but judge Ogie Alcasid turned him down. Later, he was included in the roster of Eat Bulaga staffs and co-hosted the program. The two; Ogie and Michael turned out to be close friends appearing in shows like “Tropang Trumpo” and “Bubble Gang”.

He started out as a rap artist and released his first single entitled Maganda Ang Piliin in response to Andrew E.’s “Humanap Ka Ng Panget”. The song was accidentally included in the demo tape of Dianne, Michael’s female friend and rapping partner for OctoArts label. He was discovered and he and Dianne got their individual recording contract. The song and its album became a monster hit in the Philippines.

Michael V. was first seen in “Ready, Get Set, Go!” of ABS-CBN. His first movie appearance was “Banana Split” of Regal Film together with Joey Marquez. OctoArts Films then included him in several comedy films with famous comedy actors and personalities such as Vic Sotto in “Ano Ba Yan”, “Ano Ba Yan 2”, “D’ Sisters”, “Lastikman” etc., Ogie Alcasid in “Ano Ba Yan”, “Ano Ba Yan 2”, “Manolo en Michelle” etc., Francis M. and many more.

Aside from being a comedic actor, Bitoy also accepted challenging roles in dramatic scenes. In early ‘90s, he appeared in Teysi Ng Tahanan’s Segment “Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang”. He is also visible in “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and “Mikee”. When he became a regular entertainer in “Eat Bulaga”, he was included in the show’s annual Lenten Drama Specials playing roles like being an angel, a retarded person, a gay parlorista and a neglected brother. Together with Cesar Montano and Maricel Soriano, he starred in “Paraiso: Tatlong Kuwento Ng Pag-asa”.

Michael tried his expertise in directing and was appointed to direct “Ooops!” on 1999 in GMA Network, hosted by Antonio Aquitannia, Wendell Ramos and Jessa Zaragosa which lasted for two seasons.

On 2006, he released an album entitled The Bubble G Anthology. It is a compilation of his song parodies from Bubble Gang of GMA Records. The album featured songs like Mamaw, DJ Bumbay, Wag N’yo Kaming Pansinin and Hindi Ako Bakla. Hindi Ako Bakla became a hit in radio stations on 2007.

As a composer, he composed a theme song for Super Twins, GMA telefantasya. The song was named Alinlangan, sung by Jolina Magdangal.
