Kamikazee Pinoy Pop Rock Band

The Story and Songs

Kamikazee, is one of the most explosive pop-rock band in the Philippines. KAMIKAZEE is made up of 5 members. Jay Contreras was the Lead Vocalist while doing his own maneuvers, Jomal Linao was the second vocalist and on Guitars, Led Zeppelin Tuyay on Guitars also, Jason "Puto" Astete with the Bass and Allan "Bords" Burdeos with the drums. They were bonded with same interest and fun for music in the University of the Philippines- Diliman at the College of Fine Arts. They usually idolized bands like Parokya Ni Edgar, Cheese, and The Eraserheads etc.

Kamikazee engage their initial gigs as “boy band” most often during campus events like the annual UP Fair of UP- Diliman. They changed it into "Kamikazee Cornflakes", and eventually shortened it into its present name, "Kamikazee". They used expletives, alluring movements and references in their performances.

Kamikazee’s styles extend from laugh out loud to heartrending kind of music. Each word expresses rare creativity and unique wit. Their styles allows them to rise to fame that fast.

In spite of competitions, Kamikazee continue their friendly attachments with other bands like Parokya Ni Edgar (PNE). Normally, Jay usually joined in Parokya Ni Edgar’s songs like Okattokat and many more. He is also the back-up vocalist of PNE’s hit song “The Order Taker” while Jomal was in the lead guitars. Likewise, Chito’s girlfriend, Kaye Abad, was on back-up vocals of Kamikazee’s song Martyr Nyebera.

They landed their first show on 2001. Kamikazee released their first self- titled album in 2002 including hits like Chinelas and Ung Tagalog. It also contained the rock version of Britney’s Lucky.

In 2005, the band released “Chicksilog” as part of the compilation album Rok On!. Other notable songs include Girlfriend, Ung Tagalog, Chinelas and the cover song of Ariel Rivera's Sana Kahit Minsan.

In 2006 they released their second album, Maharot. The carrier singles of the album were Narda, which is thought about fictional Filipina heroine, Darna but is actually about a boy who is dreaming of a girl he couldn’t reach and Chicksilog. Maharot reveals the restless, outrageous side of the band. Narda became very popular in 2006 and one of the most played rock songs on radio stations.
