K & The BoxersThe Story of K & The BoxersK & The Boxers is a Filipino band popular with its humor and jokes. The band was originally dubbed as ”Gladys and the Boxers” but after Gladys Guevarra left the band and K Brosas replaced her, the band was named K and the Boxers. Its secret of success might be its ever-changing looks and attires, sounds and styles on and off the stage. In terms of fashion, the band is very adventurous, trying every sort just to please the listeners. K and the Boxers remained in demand of live concert scene. Kakai Brosas is much known as ”K Brosas” for her sense of humor. She’s a famous singer and actress in the Philippine show business. Born on July 15, 1975, she attended schools like La Consolacion, St. Paul Quezon City and P.W.U. She was a former lead singer of Crucibles Band and currently staying in the band K & the Boxers as the lead vocalist. She has the ability to belt high pitched songs at the same time, doing her vocal acrobatics. She can be likely compared to “Whitney Houston” and “Barbra Streisand”. Aside from being a sing along master, she appeared in several shows like Darna, BFV, Sis, SOP and K! The One Million Peso Videoke Challenge where she won as the ultimate champion of the show having won twice besting over other champions. Her life was featured in Magpakailanman played by her. Daniel Lardizabal is also the band’s vocalist. He was born on November 23 in Dumaguete City, Philippines. He is the only singer who never left the band and stayed in spite of the band’s ups and downs. Christopher Samonte is called ”Chris” by his members. He was born on January 24 in Manila. He honed his vocal and dancing skills on Badcats, a band of new wave pop. His influences include the likes of “Michael Bolton”, “Peabo Bryson” and from the bands like “Matchbox 20” and “Vertical Horizon”. Shanna Hife is a singer from Laguna. Born on October 5, she is dubbed as a “Whistling Diva” because of her uncanny ability, the whistle. She is a finalist of Star In A Million in ABS-CBN. Her whistle became her trademark in amateur contests and gigs with the band. Other members include Sam, Eric, Nolit and Noel. Sam Valdecantos is the keyboardist of the band. Took up ECE degree in UE Caloocan and some classical guitar tutorial, he used to play in bands like Aftershock and Piccolo. This keyboard wizard considered “Richard Clayderman”, “Dave Weckle” and “Vanessa Mae” as his influences. The guitarist was Eric Larena from Yamaha School of Music, took up Music Integrated Course. He was once a member of bands like First Page, Noah’s Will, First Play, Dama Band, Aria Band, Sexy Groove and TH3. His influences in playing guitar were “Eric Johnson” and “Steve Vai”. Being the only original member of the group, Nolit Abanilla was born on October 3 in Tacloban City. This bassist studied Fine Arts and a few Music Education subjects at the PWU- Manila. A previous member of The Groove, Noel Pichay the drummer was born on December 9 in Manila, Philippines. He studied Music Education at Sta Isabel College and a teacher in Yamaha School of Music. The band was formed originally as Gladys & the Boxers with lead vocalist, Gladys Guevarra. Their first album was entitled GBWK featuring “K Brosas” on the album. The album was released on 2001 under Star Records containing 12 hit songs including Ako’y Napapa-uhh!, Hulog and Sirang Plaka. The second album of the group was entitled Sasakyan Kita. Spawning the hit songs Hay Naku, Sasakyan Kita and Mr. Pogi, the album was released under Viva Records on 2004. All the songs were composed by a famous hit-maker, Lito Camo and claimed the gold record status. Later, Gladys left the band and was replaced by K Brosas. The former Gladys and the Boxers were replaced by K and the Boxers with K Brosas as its lead vocalist. The third album of the band but the second one with K was named Sundo’t Hatid and was released under Viva Records. K Brosas appeared in several shows of GMA Network such as Bitoy’s Funniest Videos, HP, All Star K, Marimar, Darna, S.O.P. The band was also included in the concert of Eric Santos. Albums
