She won as the Grand Champion of the first season of GMA’s reality-based talent search, StarStruck. She is simply called Jennylyn Mercado. Now, she is the official spokesperson of Bata Foundation, a non-governmental organization. Jennylyn was born on May 15, 1987 and native from Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Her mother worked in Dubai and leave her with her stepfather who burned her skin with cigarette butts and put flat iron on her back. She was a battered child when she is nearly four years old. Her mother came to bail her partner not to rescue her daughter. Her mother then migrated to London and has her own family. Jennylyn was left with her aunt Lydia Mercado. Lydia became her legal guardian and adopted the last name Mercado. Her real father named Noli Pineda from Korea, went home. Rumors spread that her father asked money from his daughter which strong denied by Jennylyn saying that her father wanted her to use his surname Pineda. Jennylyn studied in Augustian Abbey in Las Piñas from Prep to high school. Her singing career commenced as recording artist with Alpha Records on 1999. She was one of the member of G$ of Nony Tan but its two co-members did not pursue leaving the band behind disunited and planned album was abandoned, though the band was able to record two songs only. She then proceeds to modeling and endorsed Bambini cologne and Ponds on television. She won the Ms. Photogenic of the Elite Circle of 10 together with Dion Ignacio, her co-fellow in StarStruck. She apeared in soap operas such as Kay Tagal Lang Hinintay, Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw and Nagmamahal, Manay Gina before entering StarStruck. On 2003, Jennylyn joined the first batch of StarStruck, GMA’s reality-based talent search. Together with Mark Herras, they were announced as the Grand Champion winning 1,000,000.00 and an exclusive contract of the station. After the search, Jennylyn started to appear in several TV shows including Encatadia, I Luv NY, Now and Forever: Dangal, Super Twins and La Vendetta. She also hosted SOP Rules. Her life story was showed on Magpakailanman on 2004. She also starred in movies So Happy Together, Let The Love Begin where her love tandem was Mark Herras, her former boyfriend, Say That You Love Me, Lovestruck, Blue Moon, Eternity, Super Noypi, Angels: Angel of Love, Tiyanaks, Resiklo, Nars, Half-Blood Samurai, Matakot Ka Sa Diyos, Kulam etc. As a recording artist, she released her debut album entitled Living The Dream on 2004. It containing several compositions of Vehnee Saturno and its carrier single is “Kahit Sandali”. The album is a certified Platinum. Her second album named Letting Go was released on May 2006 with the single “Sa Aking Panaginip” and is a certified gold album. On May 15, 2006, Jennylyn held her first major concert in Music Museum with special guests of Janno Gibbs, Mark Herras, Aiza Seguerra and Christian Bautista, her surprise guest. Some of her songs were official soundtrack of some TV series as “Moments Of Love”, “PS I Love You” (La Vendetta), “Rest of My Life” (Angels: Angel of Love), “Makulay Ang Buhay” (I Luv NY), “Sa Aking Panaginip” (I Luv NY), “Sapat na ang Minsan” (Lovestruck), “Pangarap Ni Lira” (Encantadia), “Isang Bagong Mundo” (Encantadia) etc. Currently, she is pregnant by her ex-boyfriend Patrick Garcia.
