Hotdog - Bio, Albums, Songs and Lyrics - OPM Filipino Music
The Story of HotdogHotdog is a rock n’ roll band on the Philippines popular in year 1970’s to early 80’s. The band gained its popularity on 1974 when disco music is known. They were one of the bands who pioneered in rock and roll music and led the 1970’s theme Manila Sound, a very light pop music that uses taglish and is full of youthful sentiments. Rene Garcia and Dennis Garcia originally formed the band with Louie Nepomuceno. Lorrie Illustre and Mon Torralba from the band “Underground Movement” joined the Hotdog and became part of the seven original members. Lorrie is also a composer. Tito del Rosario was one of the first to be asked to join making him like an eventual founder and Roy Diaz de Rivera was the original drummer. Robby Luna from Underground Movement eventually joined the band as the eighth member. To suit the preferences of the people, the band added female vocalist Elle del Rosario, the original silk-voiced soloist and later Zsa Zsa Padilla who is an actress today. Rene Garcia led the band and brought to popularity with the members Ella del Rosario, Gina Montes, Dennis Garcia, Lorrie Illustre and Mazo Diez. Together with “VST and Company”, “Boyfriends”, “Asin”, “Hagibis” and “Juan dela Cruz”, Hotdog brought another level of Filipino music in 1970’s. They serenade the pageant Ms. Universe on 1974 held in Manila. The theme song was entitled “Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay Ko”. Some of their hits songs were “Annie Batungbakal”, “Bongga Ka Day”, “Beh Buti Nga” and “Pers Lab” which was mega-platinum hit of Ella del Rosario. In 1984, “Manila”, one of their hit songs topped the charts of radio stations. After producing Manila, their most popular hit, the group disbanded. The group made a comeback five years after. Together with them, they added three musical heavyweights, Tony Cortez for the bass, Egay Monsalve as the keyboardist and Blitz Padua. The band was able to produce more than three dozen of Gold and Platinum hits. The band produced an 8-album collection of 250 songs which eventually became a Gold Record. Ella del Rosario pursues solo career in show business and media production.
