The Story and Songs of Gerald SantosGerald Padua Santos is a Filipino singer and an actor. He won the grand prize of Pinoy Pop Superstar Batch 2, though the youngest of he batch. He is dubbed as ”The Boy Balladeer”. He found inspiration from the like of Martin Nievera, Gary V., and Ogie Alcasid. He is the youngest signed artist of GMA Records. Gerald Santos was born on May 15, 1990 in Navotas, Metro Manila, Philippines. This 5’ 5” guy is the second of the four siblings in the family. His mother, Mary Ann Santos worked as a cashier in Malabon fish port and his father, Danilo Santos buys and sells different kinds of fish. Gerald is undauntedly proud of his family background. Reminiscing his early trainings, he started singing at the age of four. His parents got a hint of their son’s talent when he asked them to buy an April Boy album. He started singing at school when he was grade two. During an inter-school singing contest, his teacher signed him in. Though lost the grand prize for the first try-out, he won the grand champion when he returned the following year. It turned Gerald a regular performer, singing in the morning programs after flag ceremonies. During his high school education, he started joining amateur singing contest reaching far as Laguna and Bulacan. He even asked help from his father to look for a contest. Gerald used his talent “singing” in supporting for his family. At an early age, he started joining amateur singing competition to pay his mother’s operation. He indeed won the contest and grabbed the money he needed. At the age of 15, he is already a veteran of try-outs. Part of his training was waking up in the morning around 7 o’clock for vocalization. For that, he felt ready when he saw the schedule of audition for Pinoy Pop Superstar Batch 2. He joined Pinoy Pop Superstar, GMA’s reality talent search hosted by Regine Velasquez. During the entire contest, he gained support and admiration from his fans through texting. After many elimination rounds, he compete with another Santos, Harry Santos on the grand finals held at Araneta Coliseum. He emerged victorious, following the step Jonalyn Viray, grand champion of Pinoy Pop Superstar Batch 1. He was chosen also as the Viewer’s Favorite receiving more than 300,000 text votes from his fans. However, it doesn’t mean, he won through votes but through his talent and this can be proved by the panel of judges, Danny Tan, Jaya and Floy Quintos. His winning served as his turning point for his career as an artist. On 2005, he released his debut album entitled A Day On The Rainbow under GMA Records. The album was distributed under Ivory Records and was launched at Hard Rock Cafe in Makati. The first single was named after the title of the album and was written by Rebel Magdagasang. He was visible in GMA’s TV series, I Luv NY as Gary Balunbalunan co-starred by Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin. He also co-hosted Pop Star Kids with Kyla, the R&B Princess in Q TV. He made a regular appearance in SOP Rules every Sunday and also in concerts of Rufa Mae Quinto and K Brosas.
