Mobbstarr - Bio, Albums, Songs and Lyrics - OPM Filipino Music

The History of Mobbstarr

Mobbstarr is a known Filipino group of rappers and singers. They were also identified as ”Dice and K9” in Hip hop community.

The group was formed on 2002 with Dice and K9 as the original members thus got the name Dice & K9. Two members joined in, Hi-C and Trapp and was named Mobbstarr. From the busiest streets and bars in Cebu City, they entered the mainstream success through their hit song, “Itsumo”. From the streets to stadium, this best described the struggles of the group.

Dice Rosaroso was born on August 9, 1976, known for his wit and sense of humor. However, when it comes to music, he is dead serious. Even before Dice & K9, he is been devoted this kind of life. Together with Kris “Pain” Villarino and K9 once started as Anthillmobb. They have been a torch-bearer for the local Hip Hop scene in Cebu. His indie music label, 6000 goonz discovered new Hip Hop acts and produced many local artists in the city.

Miguel Calina is better known as ”K9”. His fascination with music started as early as his childhood memories. He would toy their cassette player with his bro Francis “Ice Man” Calina, making beats from samples and recording their verses over them. His passion for music landed him a job in 2 top FM radio stations in Cebu as radio jock.

”Hi-C” is Sashi Yurichiro/rainboo bryte is the chorus vocalist. She was born on October 26, 1979 and many times mistook her as Japanese. She lent her sweet voice in Itsumo which brought her what she is today. With her possessed charms, hard work and dedication, she inspired the group to flourish and continue.

Ivan Maningo or ”Trapp” was on November 18, 1985. His dream is to become a doctor, however, destiny has it own way. His gift of music started back in high school while imitating his favorite rappers for the West Coast in the USA. He found himself jamming with Dogfellas, a group of rap put together by Dice. His talent enhanced when invited to be a full-time member of the group, Dice & K9.

Their passions served as past-time before and now, become a primary source of income. The song Itsumo paved way for their acceptance not just in Visayas and Mindanao but also Luzon. They prefer to wear clothes that suit them perfectly, not too tight & not too saggy like any other Hip hop artists. They become famous not because of their unique wardrobe but because of their signature style in hip hop music, blended with pop and techno.

Their debut album Mobbmusic was released on 2002 in Cebu City spawning hits like “The Scenario” and “Itsumo”. This caught the attention of the giant label, Warner Music and released the repackaged version of Mobbmusic on 2003.

On 2004, Mobbstarr, their eponymous sophomore album was released under Warner Music Philippines. Unfortunately, K9 did not proceed in making of the third album. He chose leave the band and spent time with his family in Cebu, making something else for himself. Meanwhile, Trapp eventually left the band for U.S. and Klumcee stepped in. Hi-C described Kluncee “as talented as K9 and as cool as Trapp” while Dice added that he is a “fusion of K9 and Trapp.

The group’s third album entitled Tha’ Journey was released on 2006. The album was released under Viva Records and produced by Dice’ very own label, 6000 GOONZ. The album was said to be the most expensive album Dice & K9 ever had. The first single from the album was entitled “6 In The Mornin’”.

Lately, the group released its latest album, Time Space Rhythm Starrs on 2008. After two year in hiatus of releasing an album, new collections of beats and verses are expected. The album was released under Upperhand Entertainment and was produced by 6000 GOONZ. The first single off the album is “Eargasmic”, an infectious dance groove that will soon dominate the local club scenes.

The group is also preparing to launch a clothing line named 6G Swagger. He also commented that he and Klumcee are working with an album entitled Monks Not Dead. Hi-C is also having her solo album, tentatively called ”Fountain Of Youth”.
