The Story of Michaelangelo

Michaelangelo is a Filipino two-some band. Their winning as the Grand Champion of Nescafe Dewired 2 Accoustic Competition entitled them a ticket that launched them into music mainstream.

Michaelangelo is a brother band, composing of two multi-talented brothers, Michael Manahan and Angelo Manahan. Michael played the vocals and at the same time as the percussionist. Angelo on the other hand holds the guitar responsibilities.

Angelo Manahan is not unnoticed in music scenery. He had his influence with Shortcake as the acoustic guitarist. He has two silver awards under his cap. He won two major acoustic competitions, the WWR 101.9 Acoustic Open and Nescafe Dewired Acoustic Competition.

Michael or Mike Manahan for short was once part of now-famed band, MYMP. With his husky and unique vocals, he effortlessly inscribed his place in the acoustic scene. Without due formalities, he broke up with then-rising MYMP. All his musical dreams vanished but what is more painful for Manahan was when the group’s popularity rocketed to sky-high. Being so miserable and all his musical dreams vanished, he avoided everything in relation to music. From this humbling experience, he gathered his broken self again and moved on with the help of his brother.

Show industry is proven to be a cruel business. For those who foolishly wasted the chance, it hardly offers another chance. But for Mike, it turned out wrong. He jammed with his kid brother and felt inspired somehow. One gig leads to another until Mike suggested his brother to form a band with him. With a smile, his brother agreed.

With their combined names (Michael-Angelo= Michaelangelo), this remarkable duo reveal unusual energy on stage and a unique sounds that they can call it as their own. They got in to gigging and joined several competitions of the bands.

One of the competitions that got them on their feet was when they won as the grand champion of Nescafe Dewired 2 Acoustic Competition. With confidence and a bit of reputation, they were asked to do some compilation albums. Michaelangelo was included in the albums “Nescafe Dewired 2 One Good Rhythm Coming Up” and “Acoustic Night Live Vol. 3”, released under Vicor and Viva Records respectively.

Finally, Viva Records picked them up to be included in its roster of talents. With their full-length album, they can now call their band official. Viva Records released their self-titled debut album, mostly cover songs and only three were original compositions.

The first single from the album has a catchy tune entitled “Wish”. It is garnering huge airwaves from radios nationwide and its video also is doing well in MTV and MYX.

This multi-talented twosome never failed to leave the band breathless with their most requested pop alternative hits.
