Fuseboxx - Bio, Albums, Songs and Lyrics - OPM Filipino Music
The Story of Fuseboxx
Fuseboxx is a band relatively newcomer in the Philippine music scene. Drawing from the myriad of influences, their genre ranged from progressive rock to traditional metal to fusion to New Age. They produced a diverse sound ironically combined soothing with heavy at the same time in their own style of music. They emerged grand champion of 2003 Red Horse Muziklaban.
Fuseboxx is currently composed of five members, a woman and 4 males. Abby Clutario is the band’s vocalist and keyboardist. Her melodic vocal shows influences of modern female alternative singers. Eric Tubon drives the synths and keyboards. Rodney Vidanes handles the bass in his free bass lines. Lester Banzuelo pounds the drums and Mico Ong played the guitars in his unorthodox and incomparable styles.
Fuseboxx’s history can be traced way back year 2001, where they started as a three-piece experimental band. Original members were Eric Tubon, Paolo Cabalquinto who played the guitars initially and the former drummer Herson Fremista. After months later, the three decided to complete the line-up by adding Rodney on bass and Abby Clutario on vocals. Prior to Abby’s arrival, Fuseboxx tried MJ Dacosta on vocals but it lasted only for 2 weeks.
Realizing that they can earn a living out of playing, they tried doing alternative and new wave covers. They auditioned in bars but most felt they were too heavy for their crowd. Progress is vague for Fuseboxx and had but small followers. At the time the band joined 2003 Red Horse Beer Muziklaban, they were on the margin of splitting because of busy day-to-day schedules.
The band won the title of the competition when the judges unanimously voted them as the winner. This helped them made a break to the mainstream. Paolo Cabalquinto broke into tears when they won. Despite the demand of the people to release an album, they decided to work on their album and release two years after.
After some time, Paolo left the band to pursue a career in Nursing, and the band stopped doing covers and started writing originals. Robert Lachica eventually took over the guitar responsibilities which Paolo had left. Not later, Lachica left and was replaced by guitarist Albert Montinola.
On the same year, instead of releasing a full-length album, Fuseboxx released an EP entitled Listen. It was circulated among the underground indie rock community. After few moew changes in line-up, Fuseboxx eventually settled on their new line-up with Mico Ong on guitars and Lester Banzuelo on drums.
After two year since they won the competition, Fuseboxx finally released their self-titled debut album under Universal Records. The album featured its four part piece, the Outlet I, Outlet II, Outlet III Requiem and Outlet IV. Other notable songs include Ulanarao, Switch and Breathe, which are quite popular on NU 107.
Fuseboxx is on currently working hard on their sophomore album under Ballyhoo Records. In their recent performances, they have been playing a new song, Pagbalik. The song might come out as the first single from their new album.
