Frio - Bio, Albums, Songs and Lyrics - OPM Filipino Music

The History of the band FRIO

Frio is s Filipino band of 8. This Zamboanga-pride band falls under pop-alternative genre and is unmonochromatic with variety of melodies arranged somehow in unity with the band showcasing the three major vocals of the group. The band name is a Chavacano word which means “cold”. It is easy to recall but it never means that the band’s approach is cold. They admired Filipino artists as Eraserheads, Rivermaya etc. that foreign artists. They were motivated by the likes of Gary V, Mike Hanopol and so with The Beatles and U2 in international scene.

Frio is composed of 8 members. The three vocals are led by Alain Echem, Christopher Sison and Shiela Taup. Archie Lim is the group’s lead guitarist and Christian Quiambao on the rhythm guitars. Tristan Climaco handles the keyboards and Raz Itum on bass. The eight but not the least is the drummer Marvin Salazar.

Accordingly, having 8 members is not a problem. In the contrary, Frio finds it more advantageous to have three vocalists having their own forte. Having three vocalists meaning having more opportunities to sing different songs. They believe that number of members does not really matters. What’s important is the contributions and definition of each member’s role in converting dreams into factual successes and achievements.

Frio had their humble beginning, starting as a campus band in Zamboanga City. All started in friendship on high school and initially played at school events and other special functions. Eventually, the band played in small bars and later noted by a certain local radio station. They were requested to play in different campuses in Zamboanga City and have their campus tours. They also started to join band competitions and won some including a city band championship on 2004 and runner-up for the “SMB Jinggaling Contest Regional Finals”.

Afterwards, the band was offered to perform gigs regularly in local entertainment bars. They became known in the city’s music scenery which led them to front several acts for popular artists.

They improved their music and moved to higher level by making original compositions. Six of it were initially recorded in Cagayan de Oro. With the help and support of family and friends, Frio ventured to Manila to penetrate the local music scene.

Luckily, Alpha Records signed them up and released their debut album bearing its band name, ”Frio”. The album contained 10 original tracks with Alive as its carrier single. Other songs include Nasan Ka Na, E, Himig, Breathe, Parapa, Baby, Could Have Been, Let Him Go and Why.

The single is gaining significant airplays in top radio stations nationwide. Special songs include Breathe which was the first-ever composed single, Himig which was created within 30 minutes and E, a songs with very unusual arrangement and title.

Being nominated as a breakthrough artist in SOP music Awards 2006 and the spot of their single Alive in radio stations and TV countdowns were considered their turning point of their career. They were also featured in MYX where Iya interviewed each of the members. They also released a duet-single entitled Hiling which was included in the compilation of Sana Maulit Muli Soundtrack Compilation.

Frio is into solidity and prioritizing band first before personal pleasure. Discipline is all it needs.
