Frenchie Dy - Bio, Albums, Songs and Lyrics

Gyphertori Dimacali is a Filipina singer. She is widely known with her monicker as the only Frenchie Dy and called Mahal by her family. She is a finalist of the second Star In A Million of ABS-CBN and eventually grabbed the title as the ultimate champion. With her possessed big-time looks and voice, she is dubbed as the country’s ”Big Time Belter”.

Gyphertori is the youngest of the siblings in Dimacali family with 6 other siblings. She is the only one left to attend the house in Novaliches, making her mother her housemate. Her father died long ago and her mother tends a small medical supplies shop in Avenida. She spent three years in the Conservatory of Music in University of Sto. Tomas. It was her friends, Catre Gonzaga who named her Frenchie because her current size is the typical size of a French woman and Dy because of the size of her bra which is 40 D.

Frenchie was the first voice tutor of Sarah Geronimo when the latter was on her elementary education. At the age of 14, Frenchie together with other two friends formed a band named Overload. They joined several competitions and battles of the bands. They even auditioned in bars and eventually managed to get a regular gigs for five years.

She is usually teased being “fat” and even turned down during auditions of Overload because of her. The main reason, because she was not enticing enough to attract people on stage. Frenchie remembered that she started to gain weight during her college years. But the irony was, Frenchie is very athletic in her younger years and was used in playing basketball and volleyball. She attributed her weight gain on being an emotional eater. When she’s happy, she eat and when she is depressed, her consolation is also eating. She had undergone a liposuction once but since she cannot discipline her urges, the fats once eliminated regained in a months time.

Frenchie was nobody before being a finalist of Star In A Million. Though criticized because of her physique, with the support of family and friends, she auditioned for the second Star In A Million of ABS-CBN. This was her biggest break. She is being packaged as the “negra” belter who genuinely likes black singers. Her audition piece were of Whitney Houston’s Didn’t We Almost Have It All?.

Frenchie always wanted to sing and through joining Star In A Million, she pursued her dreams, taking criticism aside. She was told she was too fat to make it in the entertainment business, but Frenchie proved them wrong as she captivated the audience week after week. She is dubbed as a ”Big Time Belter”.

Eventually, Frenchie Dy was announced as the Grand Winner of Star In A Million. She did not have to transform into a total star material in order to win the competition. Her voice, the soul and the calibre of her performance is more than enough to draw the unanimous applause of the judges and declared her winner.

Aside from the cash prize worth 1 million pesos and a house and lot, Frenchie went home with a recording contract under Star Records. Though, she has not released her own solo album yet, her award-winning piece, “Raindrops Will Fall” was included in an album entitled Star In A Million 2 together with other finalists such as OJ Mariano and Nyco Maca. She is represented by Star Records Artist Management (STRAM).

Frenchie joined Avenue Q and her role is named Christmas Eve which she is very happy for it was her first ever role onstage.

This big time belter is not far from the league of repented performers of the country. She wowed the crowd every time she had a concert tours here and abroad.
