Short Biography of Claire de la Fuente
Clarita Crisostomo de la Fuente is the real name of a famous singer, Claire de la Fuente. She was dubbed as the “Karen Carpenter of the Philippines”. She also bagged titles like Queen Of Tagalog Songs, Jukebox Queen, and as Asia’s Sweetest Voice.
Claire de la Fuente was born on 28th of December in Manila, Philippines. She was married to Moises de Guzman and has two sons namely: Gregorio (Gigo) and Gracielo (Mickey). However, on December 2006, she was left with her sons when her husband died after struggling cancer for five months.
Claire started singing since child. At the age of 15, she grabbed the grand prize of her first singing contest. She sung “Love Me For What I AM” of The Carpenters. On her college days, she already knew her strengths and is fully aware that she sounded like Karen Carpenters.
The head judge of the said contest, George Canseco gave Claire her first break by letting her sing the jingle of Hope Cigarette that became popular because of its imported sound. She achieved her celebrity status with her song, “Sayang” that eventually became jukebox hit.
She released her first album on 1977 and became the country’s biggest-ever seller. Since then, she had released 7 more albums. Aside from Sayang, she is also popular with her immortal hits like Minsan-Minsan and Nakaw Na Pag-Ibig.
On her stay with industry, she bagged several titles including the title “Queen of Tagalog Songs” with Rico J. Puno as her counterpart. Together with Imelda Papin and Eva Eugenio, she was dubbed as a “Jukebox Queen”.
Claire de la Fuente is recognized not just here in the Philippines but ventured singing outside the country. She won the title as “Asia’s Sweetest Voice” and won praises from eminent singers like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Richard Carpenter of The Carpenters.
She left showbusiness on her mid-20’s and married to de Guzman. Being a student of Accounting, business her not far from her intentions. She set up King of Kings Transport on 1993 but few years later, it collapsed.
Years later, she was chosen as president of IMBOA (Integrated Metro Bus Operators Association) whose members make up 70 percent of all bus operators in Metro Manila.
Aside from being the spokesperson of the entire Public Transportation industry, she also manifested her knowledge about culinary arts. She opened Gracielo’s and Claire de la Fuente Seafood and Grill. She also had her cosmetics industry, The Skin Shop.
She worked for her international album with Richard Carpenter on the track, Something In Your Eyes.
