Chicosci - Bio, Albums, Songs and Lyrics

The Story of Chicosci Band

Chicosci band is Filipino band composing of 5 members. Based in Manila, Philippines, the band was active sine 1996 until this present days. They engage in genres like Alternative Rock, Pop Punk and Indie Rock.

The band initially started out as a bunch of young college studs in Ateneo de manila University on 1996. The original members include Miguel Chavez, Mong Alcaraz, Carlos Calderon and Joel Salvador. The quadruplets enjoyed playing together until the group decided to take things seriously. They invited Sonny Baquisal and Eugene Esquivias to solidify the band. Miguel did the vocals, Mong on guitars, Carlos on bass, Joel on drums and the new members, Eugene and Sonny operated the percussion and guitars respectively.

Chicosci won the interschool ”Battle of the Bands”. The prize they won was used in recording a demo which landed to a contract with EMI- Virgin Philippines. On 2000, the band released its debut album entitled ”Revenge of the Giant Robot”. The album established the band as one of the forerunners of the new generation of rock. It spawned hit singles like “Amen”, “Soopafly”, and “Sink or Swim”.

In working for their second album , Chicosci who wants to try new things sought the help of Raimund Marasigan of Eraserheads in shifting from rock to a more melodic style. The sophomore album was released on 2002 under EMI-Virgin Philippines and dubbed ”Method of Breathing”. Included in the package were hit singles like “Glass Is Broken”, “Rolento” and “Paris”. Paris is a highly infectious single as it held its record for the number of weeks in the countdown and stayed for more than 52 weeks in NU107 Midnight Countdown.

On 2004, ”Icarus”, their third album was released now under Viva Records. Songs like “Theme from Conversation with Fire”, “Shallow Graves” and “An Argument” enjoyed media airtime and went into NU 107 Midnight Countdown and Year-End Countdown.

On June 6, 2006, the band launched its fourth, self-titled album. The album featured catchier melodies and more synth playing from Alcaraz. With its new image and sound, the album met mixed reactions including criticisms. It produced four singles, “A Promise”, “Seven Black Roses”, “Chicosci Vampire Social Club and “Last Look”.

The band gained more popularity on the release of the single, A Promise. As the market grew, Chicosci is in demand in gigs locally and outside the country such as Malaysia and Singapore.

On 2007, Sonny Baquisal left the band to go to Italy with his family while Eugene Esquivas left for Canada. The lead guitarist was replaced by Ariel Lumanlan making the Chicosci a 5-piece band. On the same year, the band released its first compilation album entitled ”BEST” under EMI Philippines. The songs of the album were selected tracks from Revenge of the Giant Robot and Method of Breathing.
