Story of Bugoy Drilon

Bugoy Drilon is a Filipino singer in Pop, Ballad, Soul and Classical genres. From a simple canteen janitor, he reached his dreams as he won the second placer of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2. Among the factors that influenced his musical styles are the likes of Guy Sebastian, Brian McKnight and Boyz II Men.

Jay Bogayon was born on January 1, 1990, a native from Ocampo, Camarines Sur, Philippines. Initially, he belongs to one of the families deprived from any riches of the world. His father is a farmer and he is dubbed as “The Farmer’s Son”.

Like any normal children, Bugoy dreamt of finishing studies. Born with singing ability, he also wanted to step on the stage to perform live in front of audiences. But all this seemed to fade as his father became an alcoholic thus deteriorating the father-son relationship.

However, Bugoy persevered and promised not to depend on his father. In order to continue studies make his dream come true, he worked as a canteen janitor in a certain university.

An opportunity came and Bugoy grabbed it. This step allowed him to be recognized as now one of the promising personality in Philippine show business. As Pinoy Dream Academy held an audition, Bugoy joined and luckily made it as one of the scholars out of thousands who were contending.

With his extraordinary and unique vocals, Jay Bogayan now named Bugoy Drilon, went on to learn inside the Pinoy Dream Academy, a school for those hopefuls with exceptional singing prowess. Making it to the finals, Bugoy won the second rank, next to the PDA’s grand champion, Laarni Lozada.

Garnering 29.7 votes of the total votes, the farmer’s son has turned out to be up and coming singing sensation. His version of Paano Na Kaya is currently garnering airplays in different radio stations nationwide.

Together with Liezel Garcia, the third runner-up of PDA, both signed as recording contract with Star Records for their debut solo album release. On November 2008, his album entitled Paano Na Kaya was launched; containing 2 revivals and the rest are original pop and RnB songs.

His life story was aired on television in MMK, the longest true-to-life drama anthology. Bugoy’s life is a best example of a person considered as “from rags to riches”. But one thing Bugoy considered as his greatest achievement and lesson is that, a father will always be a father, no matter who and what he is. Being a son, his unfailing love to his father will always be his greatest achievement.
